Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord

Review
Wizardry is a first-person dungeon crawler that puts players in charge of a six-character adventuring party tasked with exploring the ten-level labyrinth of Trebor’s Castle. Your ultimate goal? To retrieve the magical amulet of the evil wizard Werdna. The game begins with party creation, where you can build a team of adventurers from various races (like elves, dwarves, and humans) and classes (fighters, mages, priests, thieves, and more). The extensive customization allows players to craft parties suited to their preferred playstyles, with the freedom to mix tanky warriors, nimble rogues, and powerful spellcasters. Exploration is tense and methodical. Each dungeon floor is a sprawling maze, packed with traps, treasures, secret doors, and, of course, monsters. Combat is turn-based and highly tactical, requiring players to carefully manage their party's spells, equipment, and health. Wizardry doesn’t hold your hand—death can come quickly, and progress relies on strategic planning and meticulous mapping (often on graph paper).A notable feature is the ability to carry over characters into future Wizardry games, creating a sense of continuity and long-term investment.
