China Syndrome for the Atari 2600 is a tense and unique game that puts players in charge of a nuclear reactor during a critical meltdown scenario. Loosely inspired by the film of the same name, the gameplay revolves around monitoring reactor cores and quickly zapping malfunctions before catastrophe strikes. The graphics are minimal, but they do the job, and the rising tension adds a surprisingly engaging layer of strategy and reflex. While it lacks the flash of more action-heavy titles, China Syndrome delivers a thought-provoking and unusual experience that stands out in the 2600’s library.
