Strategy

  • Prime Building: Create a sequence of six consecutive blocked points (a prime). Opponents cannot pass through these blocked points, making it difficult for them to move their checkers.
  • Anchor Formation: Secure a point in your opponent's home board, ideally one of the higher points (e.g., the 20-point or 21-point). This serves as a strong defensive position, providing a safe spot for your checkers and a base for counterattacks.
  • Hit and Cover: If you hit an opponent's blot (a single checker on a point), try to cover your blot immediately to avoid being hit back. This keeps your position strong and disrupts your opponent's strategy.
  • Timing: Manage your checkers' movements to maintain flexibility and avoid getting trapped. Don't advance all your checkers too quickly; sometimes, delaying a checker can create better opportunities later in the game.
  • Bear-off Strategy: When bearing off (removing your checkers from the board), try to bear off from the higher points first. This minimizes the risk of leaving blots and ensures a smoother finish to the game.
  • Doubles Management: Use doubles (when you roll two of the same number) wisely. They can provide a significant advantage, so plan your moves to maximize the benefit of a double roll.
  • Avoid Leaving Blots: Minimize the number of blots you leave, especially in your opponent's home board. A hit blot can set you back significantly, so prioritize safety when possible.
  • Count Your Pips: Regularly count the number of pips (the total number of points your checkers need to move to be borne off) to evaluate your position. This helps in making strategic decisions and assessing your chances of winning.

Acey-Deucy

This is just a different way to start the game of Backgammon. In this mode, all of the pieces will begin off the board. You will have to enter the board and move all the way around to your home. The same strategies apply here.
